Def: The feeling near the end of the day, when there's still a good 6k to go and pace has slackened to half that of the optimistic morning; blisters hurt; muscles ache; feet throb; no-one's talking; walking's boring. The epitome of poor morale.
Google Maps (N)(PL)
Def: A generally useful guidance system that suffers from the minor flaw of ignoring quite significant mountains entirely in showing the most direct route to, say, Macroom. Also fails to make clear which names indicated on tiny back roads are actual places and which are merely townlands in which there may or may not be a farmhouse.
Wasp (N)
A person who enjoys the maximum of breaks interspersed with the minimum of walking, then tending to enjoy a brief five-minute spurt before beginning to enquire as to the distance to the next stop and plotting their next break.

On morale
Walking, as endurance, is mental as much as physical. Good team morale is as essential as thick socks, bandages and a plentiful supply of Deep Heat on the Mission. Dedicated (and self-appointed) Morale Officer David McKeating strives to keep spirits high on the march, except on those occasions when he does not.
